What Is Éllan? Édition 01, the Brand Explained

Éllan (written "Ellan" when the accent will not type, pronounced EH-lahn) is a design-led premium fashion house based in India. Its debut release, Édition 01, is a run of oversized hemp and linen shirts plus one cotton-drill shacket — each carrying original art drawn for Éllan, priced ₹4,975–₹7,990, released once and never restocked.

What Éllan is

Éllan is an Indian fashion house built on one instruction: Lead. Don't Follow. The world it draws from is what we call Intellectual Resort and Post-Streetwear Leisure — clothing for people who read the room and then leave it. It is not a print-on-demand label, not a trend chaser, not a restock machine. Every piece begins as a drawing, and every drawing belongs to a single edition.

The brand sells only in India, in rupees, direct from Éllan itself. If you have seen the name spelled two ways, that is deliberate — the accent is part of the identity, but "Ellan" and "Éllan" are the same house.

What "Édition 01" means

Édition 01 is the first chapter — the founding collection. Think of it the way a gallery thinks of a show: a fixed set of works, hung once, then taken down. It gathers eleven pieces across three material families and closes. When it closes, it does not come back. The next chapter will be Édition 02, with new art and new pieces — not a reprint of this one.

The release model: released once, never restocked

Most brands make a design, sell through it, then make it again. Éllan does not. Each drawing is committed to one edition and retired. There is no waiting for the size to return, no "back in stock" email, no second pressing. When a piece is gone, the art goes with it. This is the whole logic of an edition — you can read more on why original-art shirts cost what they cost.

The four pillars

Everything Éllan makes stands on four things. Not slogans — the actual reasons a piece is worth its price.

1. Design

Original art, drawn for Éllan, that exists nowhere else. Lobsters and octopuses on striped linen. Marble busts and standing statues. Daisies, lighthouses, a nocturne in white on black. The artwork is applied by machine embroidery, DTG print, dori and heat-set patches — and on three pieces, finished with a hand blanket-stitch. See the Sea Life, Statues and Floral collections to read the visual language directly. More on the drawings themselves in Behind Édition 01: the drawings.

2. Materials

Natural hemp, imported linen, and cotton drill — chosen for how they behave, not for a label. Hemp has a dry hand and a substantial weight that softens with every wear. Linen breathes and moves in heat, with that lived-in texture from the first hour. Cotton drill gives the shacket its structure. If you are weighing the two shirt fabrics, read hemp vs linen.

3. Edition

Limited run, no restock. The scarcity is not manufactured with a countdown clock — it is structural. One edition, then the art retires. Owning a piece from Édition 01 means owning something that will not be reproduced.

4. World

The cinematic Intellectual Resort universe — the mood, the imagery, the point of view that ties every piece together. Éllan is not a rack of shirts; it is a place the clothes come from. That world is explained in old money, post-streetwear.

Inside Édition 01

The edition splits into three material families, all cut in the oversized silhouette that is the intended shape of the line — roomy, boxy, deliberately unbothered.

Hemp shirts

Six shirts in natural hemp. Nocturne in black with white embroidery, ₹6,490. Marguerite in navy with a patch and hand blanket-stitch, ₹6,890. Mistral in mustard with DTG and dori, ₹6,890. Bardot in dusty pink, ₹5,990. Iris in white with a hand blanket-stitch collar, ₹6,490. Pharos in sky blue with a dori lighthouse, ₹5,990. The full set lives at hemp shirts.

Linen shirts

Four shirts in imported linen. Antibes, blue-striped with a lobster print, ₹4,975. Naxos, coral-striped with an octopus, ₹4,975. Castor, off-white with a statue print, ₹5,990. Pollux, charcoal with a statue print, ₹6,490. See them all at linen shirts.

The shacket

Apollo is the anchor of the edition — a cream cotton-drill shacket carrying a marble-bust print, ₹7,990. It is the heaviest, most structured piece, built to sit over everything else.

How to read the name

Éllan is pronounced EH-lahn — two syllables, the accent on the first. The é is an acute accent; when a keyboard or form will not produce it, the correct plain spelling is simply "Ellan". They are the same brand. If you have searched "ellan clothing", "ellan brand india", or "Éllan Edition 01" and landed in different places, this is why — one house, one edition, two spellings.

FAQ

How do you pronounce Éllan?

Éllan is pronounced EH-lahn — two syllables with the stress on the first. The accent on the é marks the opening vowel.

Is Éllan the same as Ellan?

Yes. "Éllan" is the full spelling with its acute accent; "Ellan" is the accent-free form used when a keyboard cannot type the é. Both refer to the same Indian fashion house.
